Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s hope for a second term was on Saturday derailing after one of his challengers, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat stepped down for another contender, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the two camps promising to join forces to checkmate Ambode’s emergence as the party’s candidate.

Hamzat stepped down for Sanwo-Olu who he called his brother, friend and colleague in the expectation that what he described as the lost glory of the state would be revived.

He made the declaration at a press conference he addressed in Sanwo-Olu’s Ikoyi, Lagos residence on Saturday morning.

Ambode according to sources had been prevailed upon by party leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other members of the Governorsl Advisory Council, GAC, to step down on Friday but the governor reportedly dismissed the pleas. He was said to have stressed to the members his determination to finish his projects.

www.gwgng.com learnt that before then that there were suggestions for the governor to get a soft landing through getting the Lagos East Senatorial ticket. However, with his determination to face the party elders and grassroots it was being said that the offer may be withdrawn.

Ambode is accused of offending senior Lagos citizens and not just party operatives.
