The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu was on Wednesday morning summoned to appear before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday.

The summons was upon a subpoena for the summons obtained by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar who are petitioners against the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February, 2019 election.

The summons was upon submissions by the petitioners that the INEC had been frustrating its petition through lack of cooperation in providing required documents.

Particularly contentious is the disagreement between the petitioners and INEC over the existence of a central server to which all results of the election were transmitted. The petitioners depose that the PDP won the election based on what was transmitted to the server. INEC insists that it does not have a server.

Prof. Yakubu is to appear with the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Zamfara State at the tribunal sitting on Thursday.
