Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was on Tuesday confirmed as the valid candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Delta North Senatorial District, bringing to an end the trenchant bid by Prince Ned Nwoko to oust him from the seat.

Nwoko, a former member of the House of Representatives who was lately in the news after his marriage to the teenage actress, Regina Daniels, had claimed to have been the valid candidate of the PDP for the seat.

His argument was upheld by the Federal High Court, a decision that was reversed by the Court of Appeal and on Tuesday by the Supreme Court.

The five man panel of the apex court led by Justice Inyang Okoro, threw out the appeal by Nwoko for lack of jurisdiction.

The battle between the two men had divided political actors in Delta North with supporters at several times throwing innuendoes against one another.

Nwaoboshi has been flayed by his traducers for his lack of performance in his first term while the marriage by the 59 year old Nwoko to the teenage star had also ruffled feathers among some conservative members of the electorate in the constituency.

While Nwoko’s moral inclinations had been questioned by some, serial allegations of impropriety levelled against Nwaoboshi by prosecuting agents of the Federal Government had raised apprehension about him in the constituency.

In the latest action earlier in the week, the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property announced that it had sealed at least 14 property and several accounts belonging to Nwaoboshi over alleged infractions.

The Supreme Court decision declaring the end of the judicial insurgency against him by Prince Nwoko is bound to be more than a relief in a season of distress.

Though hugely popular on ground, the judgment means that it is the end of the road for Nwoko.
