Ize-Iyamu

The immediate past governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State Pastor Osaze Ize-Iyamu has subtly given reasons for his exit from the PDP.

In a letter to the chairman of the party, Ize-Iyamu while vowing he would not throw stones at the house he once inhabited nevertheless underscored his motif in politics which he said was to serve the people.

His assertion is against the background of feelers from his camp over their frustrations in connecting government services and infrastructure to their people.

A source in the camp affirmed that they do not believe that the PDP was positioned to win the next governorship election. The source said that remaining in the opposition for the next four years would deny their constituencies and supporters government services and infrastructure.

“Pastor believes that the PDP is not organized enough to win the next election and he has followers who if they cannot get appointments but can attract developmental projects to their people.

“What is the need of remaining in politics when you cannot bring electricity, good roads and such to your people,” a source embedded in the Ize-Iyamu camp revealed.

The former PDP candidate it was gathered believes that the leadership of the party in the state had decided on who would get the ticket and that he, Ize-Iyamu had been locked out.
“The permutations and plans of the PDP especially as concerning zoning will lead to more trouble in future, in fact, more than what you have in APC now as those who lose out will turn out to start fighting the party after they lose to the anointed candidate,” the source added.

That suggestion was, however, dismissed by a PDP chieftain who also dismissed claims that Ize-Iyamu and the influential party chairman, Chief Dan Orbih fell out because of their different proclivities ahead of the PDP presidential primaries.

Ize-Iyamu strongly backed Atiku Abubakar while Orbih was fervent for Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

However, as he formally departed the PDP on Wednesday, Ize-Iyamu vowed not to throw stones at the house he once inhabited.

His letter addressed to the PDP state chairman did not give indication of the party he would be joining, but the former PDP candidate has been known to be in talks with the Adams Oshiomhole tendency of the party in Edo State.

His letter read thus:

Dear Sir,

We write to officially inform you of our decision on behalf of ourselves and our teeming supporters to resign forthwith from the Peoples Democratic Party Edo State. This decision which was unanimous was not an easy one considering the warm relationship we have enjoyed with many members of the party.

There are however many compelling reasons that have necessitated this resolution but it would be uncharitable even in departure to throw stones at a house we once inhabited and made many friends and associates.

We wish to state for the records that our primary motivation in politics is to effectively represent our people in the political arena and ensure that Government policies and resources are for the betterment of our people.

We sincerely thank the leadership of the party for the opportunity to belong and assure them that as we leave the party, we harbour no malice or bitterness.

God bless Edo State
