The Concerned Igbo Association, CIA, Combine Igbo Movement, CIM, two pro Biafra groups on Sunday warned against the alleged act of some groups they described as more interested in political and economic gain than actualisation of Biafra  of using the name of late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, to achieve their selfish aims.

The groups alleged that certain individuals and groups were using Ojukwu’s name to gain political favour and at the same time  falsely claiming to have been anointed by him to fit into his shoes on Biafra issues before his death.

A joint statement by CIA and CIM in Nnewi and signed by Dr Nwankwo Desmond,

National President of CIA, Mr Paul Nwaoye, National Secretary, CIA and Chief Donald Nwokeoma, National President, CIM, Comrade Chukwunonso Nnaemeka National Secretary, CIM, respectively, stated categorically that late Dim Ojukwu never anointed anybody to spear head the emancipation of Biafrans.

According to the groups “It has come to the notice of Concerned Igbo Association, CIA and Combined Igbo Movement, CIM, both home and in the diaspora that a press statement credited to some groups in Nigeria announcing an event in honour of our famous and pronounced Igbo leader late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“It is in our hearts and in history of Ndigbo and Nigeria in general that Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s name remains ever green, and therefore, it is not respectful and honourable for certain individuals and groups to be using his name to gain political favour by falsely claiming to have been anointed by our late leader to take his place, when he never made such pronouncement until his death.

“We want to make it clear to the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and Biafra Independent Movenent, BIM that late Dim Ojukwu at no time anointed any pro Biafra group, leader or activist in his stead to continue the actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra.

“We have discovered that some politicians are sponsoring some pro Biafra groups, close the government of the day in Nigeria to use Ojukwu’s name to be relevant in politics of the country without referencing the truth or to the family.

“We in CIA and CIM worldwide have resolved during our joint emergency meeting held today being 23rd of November, 2019 in Enugu that we must stand against any move from unscrupulous individuals and groups who wish to tarnish the image of Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu late Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“We have in our meeting concluded to work against any group including, MASSOB/BIM, and are opposed their decision to hold any event with Ojukwu’s name on 28th of November in Owerri as long as those groups continue to make false claims to leadership.

“We are totally against it and must remain so until they stop using Ojukwu’s name and face in their selfish interests. We cannot rule out that they are doing this event to deceive gullible Igbos to believe that they are still fighting for actualization of Biafra, we must stop any group or individual who would wish to use Ojukwu’s name to score cheap political gain for them selves.”

According to CIA and CIM, “we have in our extensive deliberation regarding numerous issues concerning  marginalization of Ndigbo and Biafrans in Nigeria, decided to use this medium to warn those selfish groups in all their kangaroo and sponsored press releases regarding Ndigbo.”

“Late Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu is still alive in our minds therefore, nobody should selfishly mention hid name again for any political or economic gains.

“We still hold late Dim Ojukwu’s banr in high esteem and his name must continue to be sacred in our hearts because he sacrificed his life and wealth for us to live today.

“We are mobilizing Ndigbo to stand against any group or whoever prefer to be using Ojukwu’s name only for political purposes without looking inward and know what Ndigbo really need within this social and political landscape.”
