The abducted Christian schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu has been confirmed alive but at the same time news has come of the harrowing circumstances of at least 13 other Christians captured by elements of the Boko Haram in the Northeast.

News of the survival of Sharibu was made known by Dr. Bitrus Zakka Bwala, a principal lecturer with the College of Education, Gashua, Yobe State who was captured on November 27, 2019 while travelling in a commercial vehicle on his way to Gashua.

Zakka has made a passionate appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari, Christian bodies and others able to help to facilitate their release from the group.

He also confirmed the murder of some aid workers by the terrorist group.

In his appeal posted on twitter, Dr. Zakka said:

“I was on my way to my station when I was abducted. I appeal to the Federal Government, as you can see behind me are fellow Christians who were arrested at various points.

“When we came we saw some workers here, particularly the ones with the Action Against Hunger before they were executed. We saw that government has not done enough and that is why Leah Sharibu is still here.

“We therefore appeal in particular to President Muhammadu Buhari to do whatever is within his reach to rescue us. We equally appeal to our various governors to come to our aid and rescue us.

“The leadership of Christian organisations , we appeal to you to liaise with the Federal Government and push for the rescue of all captives here.”

He was picked up mainly because he is a Christian and also a lecturer, two principal offences in the view of the Islamic Boko Haram group.
