Eminent lawyer and nationalist, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, has condemned the Senate’s approval of the $22.7bn loan request of President Muammadu Buhari.

The former President of Aka Ikenga think tank described the approval as unfortunate.

“It is unfortunate that the Senate has approved this loan request for the President of Nigeria. The curious thing there is that there is no clear-cut description of what the loan will be used for.

He lamented that “we have a Senate that refused to scrutinise the loan request.

“The Senate ought to have ascertained our actual debt profile, our repayment plan and, of course, where the loan will be utilised.”

Uwazurike, a delegate to the Centenary Conference of Nigeria 2014, further lamented: “Hitherto, our loan had ballooned in such a way that generations yet unborn will be hamstrung with a crippling loan burden.”
