Some female officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS queried over their participation in the #BOPDADDYCHALLENGE challenge have apologized following the query issued them by the authorities.

The apology of the ladies came as leading human rights and constitutional lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN also appealed to the NIS to temper justice with mercy over the planned disciplinary action.

The #BopDaddyChallenge has seen people turning to social media to express how they relieve the boredom arising from the global lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic using the hashtag #BOPDADDYCHALLENGE

Remarkably, the song- Bop Daddy is by Falana’s son, Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz, a lawyer.

“The government is fighting coronavirus COVID-19 and rules have been made for social distancing. This is an opportunity for the Nigerian Immigration Service to revisit their rules,” the lawyer said on TVC as he said that the ladies involved apparently did not observe that they were infringing on any particular rule.

“I am aware that these ladies have apologized and replied to the query and this is not an opportunity to throw people out of job,” he pleaded.

“That is why I am appealing to the authorities for the Nigerians to temper justice with mercy and reform their rules on what you can do with our uniform.”

Responding to the viral video of the ladies on social media, the NIS through an Assistant Comptroller of General Iam Haliru accused the ladies of being an embarrassment to the service through what he termed their scandalous action.

The query dated April 15, 2020 read in part:
“The attention of the Comptroller General has been drawn to a video clip trending on the social media in recent times which revealed a rather disturbing and embarrassing display of indecent flaunting of your bodies, desecration of service uniform/beret and the use of inappropriate language, thereby sabotaging the values upheld by the service.

“To state the obvious, your act has caused a lot of embarrassment to the NIS and in line with our standard as a paramilitary organisation, is considered scandalous and an act unbecoming of an officer and therefore a violation of PSR 030401 and 030402. This is a serious misconduct liable to dismissal from service.

“In view of the foregoing, therefore, you are requested to make a representation, if any, within 72 hours on receipt of this letter why disciplinary action should not be taken against you.”
