Kidnapped Widow Of Former Edo Speaker Freed

Mrs. Hassana Garuba, the widow of the late former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba who was kidnapped in Kogi State on her way to his burial in Auchi have been released.

She and others in the entourage kidnapped along with her were freed after intensive efforts by the police on Saturday evening.

Zakawanu died on Saturday morning in Abuja. His wife and others while on their way to the funeral in Auchi were abducted by kidnappers in Kogi.

They were travelling along the Abuja/Lokoja/Okene highway when they were reportedly apprehended. Garuba died on earlier on Saturday morning.

The kidnappers, however, left behind the deceased’s aged mother who they could not move on account of her frailty.

The Nigerian Post quoted the Kogi State police spokesman DSP Ayah William as confirming the rescue of the widow
Sources revealed that Garuba died on Saturday morning in an Abuja hospital from an undisclosed ailment. He was aged 55.
