Football is a sports with a cornucopia of records. It elates football stars, fans and everyone involved in the round leather ball game when certain records are set, equalled or surpassed. Recently, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo wrote his name into the records books in the game against Hungary at Euro 2020 with the highest number of goals in the championship.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG has done its homework and noticed four outstanding football records which may never be broken.

Nine Goals In A Single Match Record Held By Erling Haaland:

Erling Haaland announced himself to the footballing world on 30 May 2019 when he hit a “hat-trick of hat-tricks” for Norway in a 12-0 annihilation of Honduras.

Haaland wasn’t exactly a household name prior to the game but immediately there was a buzz surrounding him after he scored an unthinkable nine goals in the FIFA Under 20 World Cup fixture in Poland.

It was a new record for the youth tournament, beating Adaílton’s six strikes for Brazil in a 10-3 win over Korea Republic in 1997.

Haaland also secured the Golden Boot award courtesy of his nine-goal haul.

91 Goals In A Calendar Year Record Held By Lionel Messi:

In the year 2012, Lionel Messi’s 91 goals shattered Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals in a calendar year for Bayern Munich and Germany in 1975. Messi scored 91 total goals in 69 official games, 79 in 60 appearances for the Blaugrana and 12 in 9 matches for the Argentine national team.

Now, Messi’s club side may have had a relatively underwhelming end to the 2011-12 campaign, finishing a disappointing second to Real Madrid in La Liga and falling to Chelsea in the semifinals of the Champions League. But Messi is neither underwhelmed nor disappointed.

17 Goals In a Single Champions League Campaign Record Held By Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid’s 2013/2014 Champions League campaign conquest fairytale was made possible by their goal machine, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese became the first player to strike 17 times in a Champions League season as he finished as the top scorer of Europe’s premier club competition. He was on target against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, Schalke, Copenhagen, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid in the final. One of his vintage performances was his hat-trick against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of their semifinal duel.

5 goals in 9 minutes Record Held By Robert Lewandowski:

Coming off the bench to find the back of the net  five times in a space of 9 minutes is a class act. On September 22 2015, Robert Lewandowski came on as a substitute at half-time with Bayern Munich losing 1-0 to Wolfsburg and scored five goals  under nine minutes, the fastest by a player in Bundesliga history.

Lewandowski, was on the bench for the Bundesliga game on Tuesday night but replaced Juan Bernat at half-time and got his side back into it immediately.

Five incredible goals followed in eight minutes, 59 seconds, between the first and the fifth — the fastest anyone has scored five in Bundesliga history, and Bayern won 5-1.

His first three goals came in the span of four minutes, the fastest hat trick in Bundesliga history.
