The Prophet Jones Erue led leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State has firmly disowned the Festus Keyamo led APC Delta Leaders Council, saying that the group is alien to the party’s constitution.

The party said that the announcement by the council nominating officials to conduct the forthcoming congresses was illogical and without any constitutional basis.

The denouncement follows the challenge by Festus Keyamo led group of party leaders to wrest control of the party from Prophet Erue and his associates. The group had reportedly met virtually and endorsed a plan to nominate officials to conduct the forthcoming ward congresses of the party.

The group reportedly included Festus Keyamo,SAN, (Hon. Minister and Convener), Olorogun Great Ogboru (Governorship Candidate, 2019, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor (Governorship Candidate, 2015), Dr. Cairo Ojougbo (former ED, NDDC), Dr. Alex Ideh, AVM Okorodudu (rd.), Dr. (Mrs.) Mariam Ali and Dr. Eugene Okolocha. Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and Hon. Timinimi sent apologies but fully consented to the outcome of the meeting.

Rebuffing the group in a statement issued by the party’s director of publicity, Nick Ovuakporie, the party said:

“The attention of the Delta State APC Caretaker Committee led by Prophet Jones Ode Erue, has been drawn to the above press release by the so called Delta State APC Leaders Council and the related resolutions adopted thereto.

“For the avoidance of doubt and for the purpose of clarity, the Delta State APC Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Prophet Jones Ode Erue, hereby categorically states that there is no such body known to law under the Constitution of our great Party APC, neither has the national leadership of the Party inaugurated any such body with respect to the affairs of the Party in Delta State.

“It is therefore unfortunate and laughable that this illegal contraption that is alien to the lawful administration of the affairs of our dear Party in Delta State will arrogate to itself the mandate of nominating persons to conduct the forthcoming congresses in Delta State.

“This action is seriously deprecated. It is no doubt an attempt to usurp the authority of the State Caucus which is the constitutionally recognized organ of the Party vested with the authority to carry out such action in consultation with the leadership of the State Caretaker Committee.

“The Delta State Caretaker Committee under the leadership of the State Chairman, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, hereby condemns in its entirety, the action of this moribund group for it’s anti-party activities in the formation of a parallel organ of the Party. The party will not condone such shenanigans from anyone, no matter how highly placed such individual may be.

“The Party wishes to state categorically that the formation of the membership of the congress committees in the various state chapters of the Party across the nation is the sole responsibility of the national leadership of the Party and not that of any kangaroo council made up of IDPs   (internally-desperate politicians who are APC in the day and PDP in the night) whose only stock in trade is the fractionalization and  destabilization of the Party structures in Delta State.

“The Party therefore calls on all it’s law-abiding and peace loving members to remain steadfast and be rest assured that the membership of the congress committee that  will be set up with respect to Delta State by the national leadership shall be devoid of any interference/nomination from this amorphous group or any other group and will consist of men and women of proven integrity that will conduct a free and fair congresses in Delta State.

“The party promises that the forthcoming congresses shall reflect the will of the members of the Party that is geared towards the rescue mission of Delta State from the cleavages of the PDP misrule of many years.”
