A devastating attack by gunmen has been reported at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara, Kogi State, as gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded the campus on Thursday night.

The assailants, who arrived on the scene around 9 pm, began shooting indiscriminately, causing widespread panic among students who were attending night reading classes.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, with students scrambling for safety as the gunmen stormed the lecture rooms, assaulting some students and taking an unknown number of hostages. The motives behind the attack and the exact number of students taken hostage are yet to be confirmed.

In response to the crisis, a joint task force has been deployed to rescue the victims and restore order to the campus. The situation is still developing, and further details are awaited.

GWG.ng will continue to monitor the situation concerning the gun attack at CUSTECH and provide updates as more information becomes available.

The gunmen attack on CUSTECH follows the earlier reign of banditry in Kogi State which was localised mostly in Kogi Central. That reign of banditry, however, over time lessened during the administration of the immediate past administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

This latest attack by the gunmen on CUSTECH is bound to elicit concern by the citizenry.
