Why APC Congress Didn’t Hold In Delta North – Officials
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta North has rejected claims of a free conduct of the party ward congresses in the area saying that nothing to that effect took place.
A statement issued by the senatorial chairman, Ogbueshi Ben Onwuka and secretary, Apostle V.E.O Sorokwu affirmed that materials were not available saying that the tendency loyal to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege frustrated the exercise in the area.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Delta North has grown to be the heart of the rebellion to the Omo-Agege led mainstream of the party despite the recent defection of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi to the APC.
It is the base of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh and Engr. Victor Ochei, two of the foremost politicians from the region who have identified with the Festus Keyamo led opposition to Omo-Agege in Delta State.
In a statement late on Saturday rebuffing claims of a free exercise as was alluded to by Omo-Agege, Onwuka and Sorokwu in a joint statement while also raising issues on the import of the Supreme Court judgment on the Ondo State governorship election on the party, said:
“The district, which hosts the APC Delta State Secretariat received confirmed reports of hijack of the Ward Congress materials directly from the Ward Congress Committee (WCC) delegation sent from the APC headquarters in Abuja to oversee the process.
“According to the APC 3man WCC Officials they were accosted by a certain Nick, who claimed to be the State Organising Secretary, in the escort of armed securitymen at Asaba airport.
“The Abuja delegation further revealed that the said Nick whose phone number was recorded, told them he was sent by the Delta APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Prophet Jones Erue to ensure their safety and safekeeping of the Congress materials.
“However, on arriving at the Delta State APC Secretariat, the WCC Officials realised they had been misled and the materials hijacked from them to an unknown destination.
“This revelation came forth during a press conference addressed by the WCC team from Abuja on Thursday, when hundreds of protesting aspirants, who had paid for nomination forms besieged the state party Secretariat to collect their forms but were not given forms.
“The aggrieved party faithful, who are significant members of the APC in Delta North District, subsequently brought their protests to the leadership of the party in the senatorial district.
“Curiously, investigations of the APC Delta Senatorial Office revealed that the said hijacked Congress materials were in the custody of a pressure group in the state, loyal to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
“The same Omo-Agege group were said to have convened cluster of incongruous meetings across the state and purportedly constituted themselves as ward executives from today’s supposedly Ward Congress.
“APC Delta North Senatorial District however wishes to state clearly that there was no Ward Congress in the nine (9) local government areas of the zone as the Ward Congress materials were reportedly hijacked from the APC Ward Congress Officials from Abuja at the Asaba airport.
“While we await the urgent intervention of the national leadership of our party, the APC, we urge our party faithful to remain calm and unruffled while the affront is being addressed accordingly.
“Let us remain steadfast and resolute in our determination to unclutch Delta State from the vicegrip of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since the inception of this democratic dispensation come 2023.”
