A landlord, simply identified as Mr. Monday, has been stoned to death by his tenant at Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State.

The development in Delta State came as Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Tuesday in Benin appealed to the Nigerian Army to set up a base in crime-prone areas in the state especially on the Benin – Auchi road axis.

The incident, it was gathered, occurred on Monday at a street in the Hospital Road area of the community.

“The landlord, by name Monday, went to collect his house rent from the tenant and in the process; an argument broke out between both of them.

“In the heat of the argument, the tenant hit the landlord’s head with a stone; the landlord collapsed and died on the spot”, a source who sought anonymity, said.

Another source, however, said the argument was as a result of a misunderstanding between the landlord and the tenant over electricity bills.

Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and said an arrest had been made.

The news that a tenant stoned a landlord to death in Delta came as Obaseki appealed for the strengthening of security in Edo State. He spoke while hosting the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, who led other senior officers on a courtesy visit to Edo Government House on Tuesday in Benin.

He said “First, l have to commend you and your men for the cooperation we’ve continued to enjoy from your end.

“Having said that I want to add that we are having security challenges in the state such as kidnapping, especially between the Benin – Auchi axis.

“We have military formations in Edo South, also Auchi and Agenegbode both in Edo North Senatorial District.

“And because the 120 kilometers spaces between them do not have any military presence, it has been difficult for the military to respond either from the South or North when there is an incident.
