Suarez On Form As Atletico Sink Barcelona In 2-0 Win

A goal and assist from Luis Suarez condemned struggling Barcelona to a 2-0 defeat, to heap more pressure on manager Ronald Koeman.

Koeman’s job has come under immense scrutiny following a poor run of results for Barcelona, with the Catalan giants winning just once in their last six matches.

The Dutchman watched the match from the stands, as he served the second of a two-game touchline ban and saw his side fall behind to a well-worked Atleti goal with 23 minutes played.

Thomas Lemar opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, receiving a pass from Suarez, the Frenchman thumped a left-footed strike past Ter-Stegen into the top right corner.

Coutinho came close to levelling for Barcelona in the 27th minute, but his effort travelled to the wrong side of the post. Suarez could have immediately punished Coutinho’s miss and doubled Atleti’s lead in the 28th minute, curling his effort wide of the post, when he should have at least hit the target.

The Uruguayan got his break just before half-time, firing a low shot into the bottom left corner to give Los Colchoneros a 2-0 lead.

Joao Felix and Barca substitute Ansu Fati exchanged shots on target at either end in the latter stages but no further goals arrived in the Spanish capital, potentially bringing down the curtain on Koeman’s short-lived tenure.
