Mama Nigeria Reveals Reason Behind Traditional Attire At AFCON Games
Mama Nigeria known as Oluwakemi Ofunfuwa, the National President, Football Fans Club of Nigeria, has said that she wears traditional attire to Super Eagles’ games at the Africa Cup of Nations to preach unity.
Oluwakemi Ofunfuwa, who is popularly referred to as ‘Mama Nigeria’, became an Internet sensation after Nigeria’s game against Guinea Bissau.

In a picture that surfaced online, she was seen wearing the South-Western part of Nigeria’s popular attire called ‘Iro and Buba’.
She also puts on headgear and a green feather fan, cheering and rejoicing over Nigeria’s victory distinctively among hundreds of fans.
The Aso-Oke attire was made with a green Iro and Buba with a white lace attached in the middle form the Nigerian national colour – Green, White, and Green.

She said the desire to project the good image and oneness of Nigeria to the world informed her decision, promising to paint Nigeria good anywhere she goes
The Lagos-based business tycoon, who was first made popular through a video by CAF’s Facebook page, said numerous people from all walks of life have been calling her to continue depicting the good image, culture, and traditions of Nigeria to the world.
She also said the picture also showed that our women are very decent.
“Our colourful outfit could be a turning point to maintain the dignity of our dear nation to the entire world,” she said in a statement by the National Media Officer of FFCN, Sunday Agunbiade, on Sunday.
Mama Nigeria said, “It’s no doubt that the ongoing Nations cup has further cemented the unity of Nigeria, particularly the decent outings Super Eagles have been recording. Nobody remembers his tribe, religion, or sex when Nigerians are on the field of play winning every single match and the only thing we women can do is to support our men with our rich culture and that is what I’m projecting on the stand with my attire.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country with loving people and we thank the NFF for achieving that. My members have been very fantastic at drumming, singing, and cheering Eagles to victory.
” I also use my dress to further remind Nigerians particularly women folks to always see the oneness and togetherness of Nigeria as sacrosanct. Our dress tells us who we are as a loving nation.”
