Nzeribe Nigerians mum mourn

Prominent Nigerians including President Muhammadu Buhari, National Assembly leaders, governors and others such as President Ibrahim Babangida who are normally quick to mourn the passage of prominent personalities have been unusually mum on the death of the maverick political actor, Senator Francis Arthur Nzeribe.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Nzeribe died on Thursday, May 5, 2022 but his family let out the fact on Sunday, May 8, 2022 in a statement.

The statement was jointly signed by Messrs Ojiabu Francis Nzeribe, Anthony Akpati Nzeribe and Ojiabu Oliver Nzeribe, for and on behalf of the Nzeribe Royal family while claiming to be proud of him and the worldwide acclaim he gave the Nzeribe brand.

The statement nevertheless, asked Nigerians to respect the privacy of the family and the solemnity of the event to enable them grieve in peace the death of the controversial politician who was directly involved in stoking the crises that led to the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

While several prominent Nigerians have kept mum, Governor Hope Uzodimma was quick to mourn him describing him one who “will forever be remembered as a political juggernaut in Nigeria.

 “His death has robbed Imo and Nigeria of a seasoned politician and business icon, and died when his fatherly and statesmanly advice were badly needed,” he said.

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who is the highest Igbo in the government of Nigeria described the death of Nzeribe as a huge loss to Nigeria.

Kalu, in a condolence message issued on Sunday in Abuja, joined family, friends and associates in mourning the death of the elder statesman.

He acknowledged the patriotic contributions of Nzeribe to nation building through various platforms and said that the late politician was bold, courageous and selfless in fighting for the cause of the people.

“The deceased was a man of many parts, who stood out among his contemporaries be it in business, politics and philanthropy.

“His contributions to the social, economic and political development are enormous, remarkable and commendable,” Kalu who was one of the few prominent Nigerians not to remain mum, but mourned the death of Nzeribe.
