Agents of the Gombe State government have demolished the campaign headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Jibrin Barde.

The demolition squad which came with a bulldozer was reinforced with heavy security who fired tear gas and live ammunition to drive away resistance. In the chaos vehicles in the vicinity were damaged with windshields broken.

The demolition squad was reportedly sent by a very high level political actor in the state a source privy to the development told GWG.

The reason for the demolition was not immediately clear.

However, Gombe is one of the states that the PDP has set its sight on. The issues between the incumbent governor, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and his erstwhile political godfather turned foe, Senator Danjuma Goje have to some extent weakened the governor.

Senator Goje who was governor of the state between 2003 and 2011 was at the height of the crisis with Inuwa unable to enter the state allegedly for fear of his life.

GWG further reports that Senator Goje’s daughter, Husainna Goje resigned as a commissioner in the cabinet of Governor Yahaya last November, hours after thugs attacked her father when he visited the state.

The demolition of the campaign headquarters of the PDP governorship candidate is now a new development in the violence that has shadowed political developments in the Gombe State.
