Osinbajo appointment

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday appointed  the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima, as the chairman of the “Osinbajo ice cream company.” The appointment is a witty throw back at the APC presidential running mate who last June said that Osinbajo was not strong enough to be president and was a nice man who would do better selling ice cream.

Osinbajo made the appointment when he gave his remarks at the launch of a book titled ‘Deputizing and Governance in Nigeria’, which is written by the governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje.

“…Distinguished Kashim Shettima, who is also the majority shareholder and chairman of the Yemi Osinbajo ice cream company,” the vice-president, who was a special guest of honour at the occasion, jokingly said.

Shettima who was at that time one of the strong campaigners for Bola Tinubu to emerge the presidential candidate of the APC had in June dismissed the bid by Osinbajo saying that the vice-president is a good man who ought to be selling ice cream.

“Osinbajo is a nice man. But nice men don’t make good leaders. Nice men should be selling popcorn, ice cream,” Shettima had said.

GWG.NG reports that Tinubu went on to win the presidential ticket of the APC and chose Shettima as his running mate but not without causing tremor in the polity with the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket that has drawn criticisms from several quarters.
