Wike In Secret Meeting With APC Governors
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was on Wednesday night locked in a secret meeting with two former foes and fellow governors in the All Progressives Congress, APC governors, Dave Umahi and Ben Ayade of Ebonyi and Cross Rivers States.
The meeting in Wike’s private residence in Port Harcourt, also had in attendance Governor Okeize Ikpeazu of Abia State.
GWG.NG reports that the Ebonyi and Cross River State governors were elected for their two terms on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP but defected to the APC after winning re-election on the platform of the PDP.
Wike was instrumental in the court case that sought to strip Governor Umahi of his governorship in the court cases that were launched following the move by the PDP to reclaim the governorship after the governor’s defection to the APC. Umahi, however, stood up to him and the two former friends had a famous quarrel over the defection.
Similarly, Wike has been generally acclaimed as the patron of the PDP mainstream which schemed Governor Ayade out of relevance in the PDP in Cross River State.
GWG.NG reports that the leadership of the PDP in Cross River State along with the party’s governorship candidate recently visited Wike where they pledged loyalty to him and identified with the tendency he leads in the party.
The purpose of the meeting was yet unknown as at press time and enquiries to those who may have an idea into the night meeting have not proved positive.
Wike is leader of the tendency in the PDP which has expressed opposition to Senator Iyorchia Ayu remaining as national chairman and the secret meeting with the two APC governors which a source said was essentially private could be strategic.
