A combined effort of the Police and vigilance group on Tuesday, resulted in the arrest of a suspected armed robbery gang leader and the recovery of assorted weapons in Ogidi, Idemili North LGA of Anambra as the robbers were sharing their loot.

The Ogidi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr Ahmed Sani, said  security personnel had stormed the hideout of the suspected criminals while sharing their loot following credible information.

Sani told newsmen that the suspected criminals, on sighting the security operatives, shot at them, saying that in the ensuring gun battle, one of the robbers was shot on the leg while the other escaped with bullet wound.

The DPO added that the operatives recovered two guns, a barretta pistol and a cut-to-size local gun, saying security operatives were already combing the area to arrest the fleeing wounded robbers who were disrupted sharing their loot.

Meanwhile, the Dr Tony Nwoye campaign in the Anambra North Senatorial Campaign has dismissed as ridiculous the assertion that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over alleged financial crimes.

The campaign in a statement made available to GWG.NG said that only one candidate in the Anambra North Senate election has a case with the EFCC. The Campaign mentioned the person so involved as the incumbent senator and former minister of aviation, Senator Stella Oduah.

“Our constituents know where this is coming from, the very woman who has sought to spread mud on Dr Nwoye on account of his grassroots appeal and popularity.

“Ndi Anambra and indeed, the electorate in Anambra North know that there is one person who has been facing trial and running from party to party to escape her date with the law.

“Senator Stella Oduah has her date with the courts on February 13, 2023, and shortly after she has her date with Ndi Anambra North.”
