Police Confirm Unrest, Gunshots In Mile 12, Lagos

The Mile 12 area of Lagos around Ikorodu Road experienced a period of unrest on Friday morning, with gunshots being heard throughout the neighborhood the police confirmed.

According to eyewitnesses, sporadic shootings were carried out by hoodlums, causing panic and confusion among residents.

The reason behind the unrest is currently unclear, with conflicting reports suggesting different causes.

Some sources have claimed that the unrest was a result of a protest related to the scarcity of the Nigerian naira, while others have suggested that it was due to a clash between the police and local thugs.

Videos shared on social media showed cars attempting to leave the area, with one person heard saying, “Everybody is turning back to Ikorodu, there is shooting, heavy shooting.”

Soldiers have since been deployed to Mile 12 in order to restore normalcy and maintain peace.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation has been fully resolved.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the unrest.

Responding to a tweet asking the PPRO to confirm the rumour, Hundeyin replied, “It is true. Our men are there. Reinforcement units have been deployed. Stay safe out there as we closely monitor and manage the situation,” the Lagos police spokesman said in confirming the unrest that rocked Mile 12 area.
