The war for supremacy in Delta State between Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his estranged political benefactor, Chief James Ibori got messier on Friday after agents of the outgoing governor accused the penultimate governor of dirty tricks in the alleged plot to push through Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the next governor of the state.

GWG.ng reports that Okowa is backing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to the tilt while Ibori has now been reported to come out to back the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege with his full chest.

In one of the allegations of dirty tricks by the two sides, Chief John Nani, the Delta Central Coordinator of the PDP campaign cried out in a press conference on Friday that Ibori had allegedly employed the police in Zone 5 to put him out of circulation ahead of the Saturday election.

Speaking in a press conference, he said that the police in Zone 5, Benin invited him to present himself by 11.00 a.m. saying that he feared that it was part of a conspiracy that Ibori had been plotting against him.

“They said that I had been invited to their office as part of the political tension,” the political leader said as he denied the claims of any political tension.

“I was invited yesterday (Thursday) from Zone 5 Benin City and I also got a phone call from the Area Commander in Sapele. Before now I had gotten calls from the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori promising me that he will keep me out of circulation and that I will not be involved in the election. I felt that it is a politically motivated invitation.”

GWG.ng reports that the development in Delta State came after the Labour Party and the APC swept the elections in the National Assembly elections that was largely said to be a referendum on the outgoing governor, Okowa who was the PDP presidential running mate.

The decision by Ibori to allegedly unite with Omo-Agege came after the penultimate governor of the state was outwitted in the bid to push through his favoured protegee, Chief David Edevbie with the advent of Oborevwori who was backed by Okowa.
