Obaseki impeachment insurance

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has won an insurance against impeachment after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP claimed the majority of seats in the State House of Assembly at the end of the Supplementary elections in three state constituencies in the state.

GWG.ng reports that the PDP won the three remaining seats in the House of Assembly while the All Progressives Congress claimed the remaining ticket in the House of Representatives in the supplementary elections in Edo State held on Saturday.

In the Edo House of Assembly election, PDP’s Destiny Enabulele, Natasha Osawaru, and Uyi Omosigho were declared winners in Ovia Southwest, Egor and Oredo East constituencies respectively.

In the supplementary election in the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde federal constituency of Edo State, APC’s Chief Billy Osawaru emerged victorious.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral on March 21, declared the March 18 Edo House of Assembly election in Ovia Southwest, Egor and Oredo East constituencies as inconclusive.

At the end of the March 18 House of Assembly polls, the PDP had won 12 seats in the 24 member House of Assembly while the APC got eight seats and the Labour Party, one seat. eight constituencies, while LP won one seat. It brings to 15 House of Assembly seats won by the PDP in the state.

In the House of Representatives election, APC won five seats, LP had two seats, while PDP won one seat, with APC winning two senatorial seats, while LP had one senatorial seat.

GWG.ng reports that Governor Obaseki had prior to the House of Assembly elections cried out that his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was seeking to coerce a majority in the House as a way of instigating his impeachment.

With the PDP gaining 15 members in the House of Assembly it is now suggested that Governor Obaseki may have gained insurance against his impeachment as Edo governor.
