Senator Smart Adeyemi and an aide of Governor Yahaya Bello, Hon Kingsley Fanwo squared off on Monday night over the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primaries in Kogi State that produced the auditor general of local governments in the state, Usman Ododo as candidate.

Senator Adeyemi who was Governor Bello’s campaign manager in the 2019 re-election campaign had sought the party’s ticket but came last in the governorship primaries conducted by the Governor Bello Matawalle led panel with 311 votes compared to the 78,704 votes polled by Ododo.

However, Senator Adeyemi speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, condemned the declaration alleging that there was no election conducted anywhere in the state.

Adeyemi also alleged that Ododo who won the primary is a relation of the governor from the same polling unit.

Charged on a video clip of 2019 where he said that he would go anywhere Yahaya Bello asks him to go and support anyone produced by the governor as his successor, Senator Adeyemi said that he had changed his position.

Also speaking in the same programme, Mr Fanwo debunked the claims of Senator Adeyemi alleging that the outgoing Kogi West senator could not talk about fairness having also violated the principle of zoning in the rotation of the senatorial seat among the Federal Constituencies in Kogi West.

“When you lie there will be a level of inconsistency in what you say. I do not understand what he says because those he saw were actual party members who voted,” Fanwo said.

“He said that the primary did not hold anywhere. By showing videos where the primary held it shows that all that he has been saying are completely not true.”

Fanwo debunked the video evidence of alleged by Adeyemi in which party members were seen protesting the absence of the polling officers. According to him those protesting were not party members and allegedly forged party cards to pass off as party members.

“I am not sure that Senator Smart Adeyemi has any evidence that the governor endorsed anyone,” Fanwo said in debunking the claim that Governor Bello foisted his choice on the party.

Fighting back, Senator Adeyemi hauled his missile on Fanwo who he claimed as recent as November 2022 pledged to support him for the governorship should he opt to contest.

Warning that the APC would have a tough time in the election, Adeyemi said:

“I can assure you that if the APC should go ahead with this it will not have it easy. Election is not going to be he is our candidate,” adding that people would not vote based on party basis but on character.”

Senator Adeyemi further alleged a hidden agenda in the emergence of Ododo as APC candidate, concluding “I am praying that they don’t push me to talk.”
