Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has opened up on how members of his family conspired against him in voting against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the presidential election.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Umahi who canvassed Tinubu during the presidential campaigns said he was shocked to have discovered that even within his family that Tinubu lost the vote to Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The development in his family he said underlined the fact that voting pattern during the presidential elections breached party lines and was also influenced by the difficult circumstances in the land.

Governor Umahi spoke in an interview on Channels Television.

“In all honesty, I didn’t give any chance to the Labour Party to win any election in my State (Ebonyi State) because what we have put in place was such that no other political party should be able to win anything, not even Councilorship election in my State. I saw the Labour Party vote as a protest against my Party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“I was very surprised; even in my family, there was a conspiracy against me. I did not know that they voted for Peter Obi, but in the other election, they voted for APC because of what we’ve done in the State,” Governor Umahi said in the shocking revelation of how his family even conspired against him in the presidential election.

Before his election as governor, Umahi had served as state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deputy governor of the state and was elected governor of the state in 2015 and 2019.

The governor in November 2020 defected to the APC on the claim that the PDP had no intention of zoning the presidential ticket to the Southeast. He was elected senator in the February 25, 2023 election.

GWG.ng reports that the senator-elect is one of those who have been mentioned in the tussle for the Senate Presidency despite being a first timer in the Senate.
