The Lamidi Apapa led faction of the Labour Party on Friday ordered lawyers representing the party at the Presidential Election Tribunal to report to him within the next 48 hours to receive briefings following what he claimed as a court judgment that conferred legitimacy on him.

His claim was, however, immediately debunked by the mainstream of the party which accused him and his associates of peddling their normal misinformation for the selfish reasons.

GWG.ng reports that Apapa while speaking after a court hearing on Friday in Abuja claimed that he had won the legitimacy of the courts and as such asked all the lawyers representing the party at the PET to report to him within the next 48 hours because I am the man in charge.

“I want to invite all the lawyers representing the Labour Party that they should come for briefing, that they should come and give me update on what is happening at that tribunal within the next 48 hours because right now, I am the person on the driver’s seat and I am fully in charge,” Lamidi Apapa said in a charge to the party’s lawyers.

Responding in a statement made available to GWG.ng, the acting National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Obiora Ifoh debunked the claim accusing Lamidi and his associates of misinforming the public.

In a statement tilted “Ignore the fake news by Apapa group, Abure still national chairman,” he said:

“The FCT State High Court  under his Lordship, Justice Hamza Muazu today said he will go ahead to hear the motion by the group loyal to the suspended Deputy National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa against some of our leaders including the National Chairman, Julius Abure and three others.

“In his Lordship ruling, he said that he will go ahead to hear the substantive matter. The matter has been adjourned to Friday, May 19 for further deliberation. Today’s sitting is not for judgement as Apapa’s group is peddling in their usual way of misinforming Nigerians but purely for the purpose of determining the jurisdiction of the court.

“However, we have appealed the ruling immediately because we know we will not get justice from the court.

“Meanwhile, Barrister Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the Party pending the final determination of the matter,” the party scribe said in dismissing the charge on the lawyers by Lamidi Apapa.
