Drama is playing out at the premises of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi Lagos as operatives and lawyers of the Department of State Services, DSS are locked in a game of intrigues following the bail granted the suspended governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

GWG.ng reports that Emefiele is currently in the process of perfecting the bail granted him in the sum of N20 million by Justice Nicholas Oweibo earlier in the day.

However, operatives of the DSS who brought him to the court hearing are lurking around and suspicious lawyers of the suspended CBN governor are believed to have told him not to come out of the court building until he has perfected the bail.

GWG.ng reports that Emefiele earlier made a no guilty plea to the charge of illegal possession of firearms filed against him by the DSS.

The appearance in court was the first time that Emefiele was seen in public since he was suspended and then arrested while in Lagos on June 10, 2023, two weeks after President Bola Tinubu was inaugurated. Though not very hefty before he was picked up, Emefiele was considerably lean as he appeared in court on Tuesday morning.

The court had in granting Emefiele bail adjourned hearing in the case to November 14, 2023 and his lawyers while processing the bail are also keeping a suspicious eye on the lurking DSS operatives who it is feared may be waiting to take him out once he comes out of the court building.

GWG.ng reports that the DSS had months ago accused Emefiele of sponsoring terrorism and other high crimes but surprisingly arraigned him for possession of a gun which it claimed was without license. Emefiele denied the charge on Tuesday.

Meanwhile the drama between Emefiele, his lawyers and the DSS operatives is increasingly drawing the eyes of the public waiting to see whether the secret police would obey the court order that gave him bail or whisk him back to detention.
