Helen Williams, a skilled wigmaker from Lagos, has achieved a remarkable feat—entering the Guinness World Records for crafting the world’s longest handmade wig, measuring an astonishing 351.28 meters (1,152 ft 5 in).

Dedicated to the task for 11 days and investing over two million naira (£2,031; $2,493), Helen’s achievement received official acknowledgment from the GWR.

Her meticulous construction involved a wig-cap netting and black fabric underlay attached to a bicycle helmet. Helen used 1,000 bundles of hair, along with 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 hair clips to bring the extraordinary wig to life.

As a seasoned professional with eight years of wigmaking experience, Helen, who crafts an impressive 50 to 300 wigs weekly, faced unique challenges in breaking this record. Despite moments of exhaustion, unwavering support from friends and family kept her focused on creating the world’s longest handmade wig.

One significant challenge was finding a suitable location for measuring the wig’s length. Traditional venues, including running tracks, proved inadequate. Helen eventually selected the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, a lengthy road connecting Lagos and Abeokuta.

Now displayed proudly in Helen’s office, the exceptional wig is open for admiration by anyone interested. Expressing her joy over this Guinness World Records accomplishment, Helen remarked, “It is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I still cannot believe it.”
