The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagemi (SAN), has issued a caution to politicians who lost at the Election Petition Tribunals, urging them to refrain from tarnishing the image of the nation’s judiciary.

In response to circulating allegations against the judiciary, Fagbemi dismissed them as cheap blackmail and advised the concerned politicians to exercise caution. He spoke with journalists during a prayer event organized for him in his Ijagbo country home in Oyun local government area of Kwara State.

Fagbemi emphasized the importance of stopping baseless insinuations against Judges and encouraged those with concrete evidence against any Judge to come forward. He stated, “You lost at the Tribunal, you lost at the Appeal Court and at the Supreme Court, yet you are insinuating foul play. I think even apart from law, morality also demands that you take the outcome as it is.”

The minister made it clear that unfounded insinuations could harm the reputation of the nation, asserting, “Don’t forget, when you make unfounded insinuations, you are dragging the name of the nation in the mud.”

Fagbemi highlighted the role of evidence in addressing concerns about the judiciary, stating that unless concrete evidence is presented, he will not succumb to blackmail. He emphasized the inherent subjectivity in the perception of justice, noting that winners praise the judgment while losers may dispute it.

Furthermore, the minister called on everyone to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship. During a prayer session organized by his siblings and the entire Fagbemi family, he urged Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu an opportunity to positively impact the country.

Fagbemi explained that President Tinubu, despite facing challenges, is focused on long-term benefits and encouraged patience to witness the full effect of his efforts. He underscored Tinubu’s commitment to seeking investors’ support and expressed confidence in the President’s ability to navigate challenges based on his past experiences in Lagos State.
