Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo has challenged the homeboy status of Comrade Philip Shaibu saying that jumping from one Mama Put to the other is not what defines a true Edo boy.

Speaking following his interaction with locals in his Ewohimi community, in Esan South Local Government Area, Ighodalo declared that he has been in the service of Edo State since the Adams Oshiomhole era when he became a member of the Economic Management Committee then chaired by Mr Godwin Obaseki.

He asserted that he has been the chairman of the committee since Obaseki became governor.

GWG.ng reports that opposition to Ighodalo has been fueled by claims that he is unknown in Edo State, a narrative that Shaibu has since advanced by declaring himself the homeboy who does not need to learn the ropes of governance being familiar with the nook and cranny of the state.

Ighodalo has been widely reported as Obaseki’s preferred successor.

Speaking following his interaction with his Ewohimi community that was trailed by controversy after an interpreter was fetched for him to relate with his community, the corporate guru said:

“I am a true Esan Boy. I am not going to use Homeboy because they have used it badly. I am a true Edo boy, I am a true Nigerian. That’s what I am. Since 2008, I have been in the Economic Team of Governor (Comrade) Adams Oshiomhole, since Governor Obaseki came in I have been chairman of the Economic Team. I have been coming into the state to support and advise the government. I have been giving advise since 2008, since 15 years ago which means that I come into Edo State five, six times a year on government business, not to talk of my own personal business.

“People can say what they like because we are not noisy or because you are not jumping from one Mama Put to the other does not mean you are not a true Edo Boy.

“This issue of Edo boy, the issue of a true son of the soil is in the heart. There are many of our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora who are more Edo than many people that live here. It is in the heart. It is not how many pepper soup joints you go to. Those of us in the Diaspora, in the diaspora in Nigeria and abroad, all the best hands must come to develop Edo State. Sometimes we cannot sit in the village in the Mama Put and say the rest of us cannot come and develop our state. It is not done.”

GWG.ng reports that Asue Ighodalo’s claim as a real Edo boy will now be put to discourse as the campaign season unfolds.
