Ize-Iyamu withdrawal

Two-time governorship candidate in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has formally declared his interest in the 2024 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

GWG.ng reports that the declaration of Ize-Iyamu has inevitably killed the zoning permutation in the APC with the potential of a similar shadow on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

GWG.ng reports that Ize-Iyamu in his broadcast announcing his entry was quick to position himself as in the past as a homeboy. However, with the term now being commonised by the PDP’s Comrade Philip Shaibu, Ize-Iyamu appeared to take a different route.

Ize-Iyamu declared for the ticket that presently has some prominent Edo indigenes as Rep Denis Idahosa, Gen Charles Airhavbre, Senator Oserheinmen Osunbor and Col. David Imuse among the frontline APC aspirants. He was, however, quick to locate issues to position himself as the frontline candidate in differentiating himself from Asue Ighodalo, the man widely believed to be the favourite of the outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki.

“I am running for the governorship position of our dear state in the upcoming election in 2024 under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), once again.

“I am doing this because it is my belief that we need someone who genuinely has the interest of the state and people in mind.

“I believe I’m the right candidate for Edo state because what Edo people need is experience, focus and commitment to the peoples plights.

“I have come up with a comprehensive program and plans for Edo people that will make Edo grow and flourish once again.

“Myself and my wife are not ashamed to be called local Edo people because we want to make Edo proud again, irrespective of the senatorial district because every part of Edo will witness tremendous development never witnessed in the history of our dear state”.

Differences Between Ize-Iyamu and Ighodalo

Ize-Iyamu who is a lawyer like Ighodalo was quick to deny being a technocrat as Obaseki and his crowd like to dress Ighodalo.

He said:

“Though I am a lawyer, I am not a technocrat, I am a believer we are not going to allow a situation where Edo becomes developed for strangers to take over.”

He said he is not a stranger

By claiming not to be a stranger, he was inevitably throwing darts at Ighodalo who was seen in a recent video using an interpreter to speak to his village people.

Speaking in that vein, he robbed himself as a local Edo guy. “You must have a governor whose outlook is totally Edo and that is what I stand for. Myself and my wife to call ourselves local Edo people, because we believe in this place, we live here.”
