FRSC and VIO officer

A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, Marshal Ibrahim has affirmed that Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) have no role in apprehending motorists over traffic offences saying that their duties remained only with verifying and inspecting vehicles.

In the informative video, Marshal Ibrahim highlighted that the primary responsibility of the VIO is to check the standard and functionality of vehicles and not with the conduct of motorists.

According to him, the VIO holds the authority to arrest cars deemed not roadworthy.

Marshal Ibrahim emphasized a crucial distinction, stating that the VIO does not possess the jurisdiction to apprehend individuals for offenses such as overloading, over speeding, making phone calls while driving, dangerous driving, or any other traffic violations. He clarified that the FRSC is specifically tasked with enforcing traffic offense arrests.

The video underscores the significance of understanding the respective roles of the VIO and FRSC in maintaining road safety. According to Marshal Ibrahim, while the VIO concentrates on ensuring vehicles comply with essential requirements such as lights, tires and such, the FRSC is responsible for addressing a broader spectrum of traffic offenses, contributing to a more systematic and effective approach to road safety enforcement.

Given the prevalence of road traffic offenses in the country, Marshal Ibrahim’s insights provide a crucial resource for citizens navigating the often complex landscape of traffic law enforcement. By being aware of their rights and responsibilities, Nigerians can contribute to a safer and more compliant road environment. This educational video stands as a beacon of awareness, shedding light on the intricacies of traffic law enforcement and promoting a balanced and informed interaction between citizens and law enforcement agencies, ultimately fostering a culture of road safety and legal awareness.
