Suspense Ahead As Edo APC Leaders Receive Report On Pruning Guber Aspirants
The eagerly anticipated meeting between All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants for the Edo State gubernatorial election and party leaders concluded in Abuja with a twist of suspense.
The meeting, convened by former governor Adams Oshiomhole, aimed to address the challenge posed by the large number of aspirants vying for the party’s ticket.
A total of 26 aspirants, including notable figures like Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor, and others, are in the race for the APC ticket in the forthcoming primary due next month.
The meeting, held on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, saw discussions between the aspirants and the State Working Committee, along with leaders from the 18 local government councils.
Surprisingly, the leaders of the party, in collaboration with Oshiomhole, established a five-man committee. The primary responsibility of this committee is to engage with the 26 aspirants and strategically reduce their number to a manageable size. Furthermore, the committee is tasked with identifying a credible candidate who will receive the party’s backing for the crucial September 21, 2024 governorship contest.
The suspense heightens as the committee is set to submit its report during another pivotal meeting scheduled for Monday.
The critical decision-making process didn’t delve into the topic of zoning during its initial discussions. The outcome of this committee’s actions is expected to shape the trajectory of APC’s gubernatorial aspirations in Edo State.
