After CBN Expenditure Of $200m For Hair, Former Atiku Aide Asks Tinubu To Ban Further Importation

In light of the recent depreciation of the Naira against the US Dollar, former Atiku Abubakar campaign spokesman, Reno Omokri has called on President Bola Tinubu to ban the importation of hair as part of efforts to strengthen the local currency.

Omokri made this suggestion while addressing the challenges faced by the Naira, emphasizing that Nigerians contribute significantly to its depreciation.

Omokri placed blame on Nigerians for their preference for foreign airlines over Nigerian carriers for international flights, citing a recent payment of one billion dollars to foreign airlines by the Central Bank of Nigeria. He argued that if Nigerians chose to fly Nigerian carriers like Air Peace, the money spent on foreign airlines would circulate within the country, positively impacting the Naira’s value.

He also criticized the expenditure of $200 million by the Central Bank on the importation of human hair, suggesting that Nigeria spends more on imported hair than on books. Omokri questioned the need for such imports, emphasizing that the hair often labeled as Brazilian, European, or Peruvian originates from countries like India, Bangladesh, and Southeast Asia.

In his call to action, Omokri proposed that President Tinubu should consider banning the importation of human hair, pointing out that containers arriving in Nigeria with goods that can be produced domestically are adversely affecting the Naira. He underscored the importance of prioritizing locally produced items to boost the nation’s economy.

The former presidential aide concluded by urging readers to fact-check his statements, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to support domestic industries to curb the continuous depreciation of the Naira.
