Herbert Wigwe, Wife, and Son Buried In Emotional Ceremony

The somber town of Omueke, Isiokpo, Rivers State, bore witness to the final farewell of Herbert Wigwe, the deceased Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, his beloved wife, Chizoba, and their son, Chizi were buried on Saturday.

The interment marked the culmination of a week-long series of funeral rites held to honor the lives of the late banking luminary, his wife, and son. Commencing promptly at 11:00 AM, the funeral service drew mourners from far and wide, encompassing both local and international communities, all gathering to pay their respects one final time.

Dignitaries from various spheres graced the occasion, underscoring the profound impact of Herbert Wigwe’s legacy. Notable figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Simi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi were among the esteemed guests. Business magnate Aliko Dangote, former Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Governor Alex Otti were also in attendance, alongside a host of other prominent personalities.

The security arrangements were overseen by the State Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, ensuring the Wigwe trio was buried in a dignified manner. Additionally, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Dr. Godknows Igali, a former Nigerian diplomat, joined the gathering, further underscoring the significance of the occasion.

GWG.ng reports that the tragic incident that claimed the lives of Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe, along with other esteemed individuals, remains a profound loss. The fatal crash of their Airbus Helicopter EC 130B4 near Halloran Springs, California, on February 9, 2024, left a void in the hearts of many. While investigations into the crash are ongoing, preliminary reports suggest adverse weather conditions may have played a role.
