Tragedy struck in Bauchi as two children lost their lives in a devastating fire at their home, according to a statement from Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, on Monday.

The heartbreaking incident occurred in the Madina area of Bauchi on Sunday. Despite swift response from the police and Federal Fire Service, 8-year-old Zainab Bashir Mohammed and her 5-year-old sister, Ummu Salma Bashir Mohammed, were unable to escape the blaze and suffered fatal burns.

In another disturbing development, a suspected motorcycle thief met a gruesome fate at Magamar Gumau market in Toro Local Government Area. Wakil revealed that the suspect fell victim to a vengeful mob, who took matters into their own hands, resorting to violent vigilante justice.

Expressing condemnation for such actions, Wakil emphasized that the police were actively investigating the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice. He sternly warned against the prevalence of jungle justice, stressing that those found guilty would face the full force of the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, has ordered a thorough investigation into both incidents, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law. Musa decried the barbaric actions of the mob, highlighting the importance of adhering to legal procedures and refraining from vigilante tactics.

In light of these tragic events, Wakil urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. He emphasized the importance of promptly handing over suspects to the police for proper investigation and prosecution, rather than resorting to extrajudicial violence.

The loss of innocent lives and the brutal nature of vigilante justice serve as stark reminders of the need for a society governed by law and order. As investigations continue, authorities are determined to ensure that justice is served and that such senseless acts of violence are not repeated.
