New Troubling Questions After “Rescue” Of Kuriga School Children

The rescue of 137 students and staff from a school in Kuriga Kaduna State by the Nigerian army has sparked widespread relief, but it has also triggered a flurry of questions and worries.

Gunmen had stormed the school in Kuriga, Kaduna, on March 7, allegedly taking 287 students and staff. Following weeks of tension, a joint operation between the military and local authorities led to the rescue of 137 hostages in the early hours of Sunday. The liberated individuals, including 76 females and 61 males, were found in a forest in the neighboring state of Zamfara and are currently undergoing medical checks before reuniting with their families.

However, alongside the celebrations over the successful rescue, troubling questions linger. One pressing query concerns the fate of the remaining hostages. With conflicting reports on the number of abducted individuals and varying accounts from officials, uncertainty shrouds the status of those not included in the rescue operation.
