The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State, Dr Tony Aziegbemi has been released by his kidnappers after 10 days in captivity.

GWG.ng reports that Aziegbemi was released early on Tuesday morning according to Crusoe Osagie, the special adviser to the Governor of Edo State. Osagie spoke in a telephone interview with Channels Television on Tuesday.

No details have emerged on whether he was rescued or his freedom was negotiated with a ransom payment.

It was gathered that Aziegbemi was released by his abductors in the early hours of Tuesday and immediately returned to his Benin City residence around 3 a.m.

Dr Aziegbemi, a strong loyalist of the governor was abducted reportedly shortly after he emerged from the Government House on March 16 in Benin GRA.

He was reportedly abducted by men who rode in two Toyota Corolla cars and had trailed his SUV alog Osaro Street around 11.00 pm.

The release of the PDP chairman is expected to bring the expected relief to his family and political associates.

GWG.ng reports that Dr Aziegbemi, a former member of the House of Representatives represented Esan East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency between 1999 and 2007 and subsequently stepped down and released himself into building the party in the state.
