Senatorial leadership of Labour Party endorse Ighodalo

The senatorial leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo Central have publicly endorsed the candidacy of Barr. Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the commencement of campaigns on April 21, 2024 in Edo State.

Barr. Ighodalo’s delegation, including the former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Friday Itulah, was received at the Uromi country home of Chief Friday Ibadin, a retired commissioner of police and senatorial leader of the Labour Party.

Rising from a closed door meeting, the combined leadership of the Party from the 5 local governments in the region declared that they would be throwing their support behind Barr. Ighodalo because they believed he was the most competent candidate on the ballot.

Speaking, Chief Ibadin reminded the assembly that he supported his friend Peter Obi not only because he was competent; but also because he believed that for fairness, equity and justice, power should rotate to the South. He added that in endorsing Barr. Ighodalo, he was simply fighting for the same principles to be applied in Edo state.

The LP Senatorial Youth Leader Mr. Osunbor Idemudia Emmanuel from Esan south east pledged to support Barr. Ighodalo but appealed to him to fix the roads in Edo Central if he wins the election. He joked that the same hands that would vote him into office in September would be used to stone him if he failed to deliver on his promises.

Responding, Asue Ighodalo stated that he was humbled by the cross-party endorsement from the Labour Party leaders.

“Once campaigns begin I will come back to ask you to work with me to help me spread my message across the entire State. I believe that anybody who wants good for their people belongs to the same party I belong to; so I sincerely thank you for looking beyond party politics to adopt me.

“We all love our people and want the best for them; I am clear in my mind that finding and working with a critical mass of people who hold these same views is how we will not only build our state but even the nation”, Barr. Ighodalo said.

GWG.ng reports that Chief Ibadin has joined the growing list of high profiled Labour Party leaders and Obidients including the Okphebholo family, Barr. Abdul Mahmoud, Prof. Chris Nwaokobia, and Hon. Lucky Obiyan who have all publicly endorsed Barr. Asue Ighodalo.
