Controversies trailing Mr Ibu

The family of the late Nigerian comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has officially disclosed the date for his burial. According to an announcement jointly signed by the actor’s brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, Mr. Ibu will be laid to rest in his hometown of Amuri, situated in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State on June 28.

The statement conveyed the family’s intention to bid farewell to their beloved member with the honours befitting a hero. “The deceased will be buried like a hero,” Elder Okafor affirmed.

John Okafor’s health had become a matter of public concern after reports surfaced that he underwent amputation following a battle with an undisclosed illness a few months prior to his demise. His passing marked a significant loss to the Nigerian entertainment community and his fans worldwide, who cherished his unique ability to spread laughter and joy through his performances.

In the statement, the Okafor family invited the public to join them in honouring the memory of their beloved icon. The burial ceremony will commence on Tuesday, June 25th, with a high-profile novelty match. On Wednesday, June 26th, a session dubbed “Mr. Ibu’s Night” will include a candlelight procession and live entertainment.

A Christian Wake is scheduled for June 27th at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, followed by the funeral on June 28th. The five-day burial ceremony for Mr Ibu will conclude on Sunday, June 30th, with a Church Thanksgiving gathering for family members, friends, and well-wishers.
