Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, seized approximately 18 travelers on their journey from Ekiti State to Ondo State over the weekend.

The ambush occurred along the Irun-Akoko/Imesi stretch of the Ekiti highway on Saturday evening, as the passengers were en route to Ikare-Akoko, the administrative center of Akoko North East Local Government Area in Ondo State.

Reports indicate that the assailants forcibly led the passengers into the nearby forest. Toyin Ogunyemi, one of the fortunate individuals who managed to evade capture, revealed that the kidnappers have not yet initiated contact with the families of the victims to demand ransom.

Upon learning of the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanyo, confirmed that four passengers who escaped the abduction have informed law enforcement of the ordeal.

“Four people came to the station and reported that while on their way from Ado Ekiti to Ikare at Oyinmo Camp, Irun-Ado Ekiti Road, they were attacked by unknown gunmen.

“But they escaped through the bush; a police search team has been deployed to the area.”
