The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the arrest of several prominent individuals suspected of involvement in banditry.

This information was shared by the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dalijan, during a meeting with Thomas Parker, head of the counter-terrorism unit at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Dalijan disclosed that among those arrested were a current member of the State House of Assembly, a district head, and a former local government chairman.

However, he did not reveal the names of the suspects.

The commissioner called on the United Nations to support the establishment of a forensic laboratory and to enhance the training of the Command in investigative techniques.

He emphasized that the collaborative efforts of security agencies and Community Protection Guards have significantly reduced crime in the state, particularly against terrorists migrating from Borno to Zamfara.

Dalijan also requested further assistance from the UNODC counter-terrorism unit to bolster Zamfara State’s fight against insecurity.
