Atiku Tinubu leave

Fomer Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been taken to task over his sympathy message to President Bola Tinubu after the president’s fall at the commencement of the Democracy Day parade at the Eagle Square on Wednesday.

GWG.ng reports that Atiku had in a message following the fall, posted a sympathy message ending with a cryptic message “I hope all is well”

The message was accompanied with the video of the fall, a development that made some to believe that the post was more of mockery of the president than a sympathy.

GWG.ng further reports that Atiku and Tinubu had been long-time political and business allies until the former vice-president exited the All Progressives Congress, APC and the two turned into political combatants.

An X user not taken in by Atiku’s sympathy message proceeded to post a picture of what he said was Atiku falling in public..

Other netizens went to Atiku’s comment section to post their views:

@ekitiketekan: You quickly post the video, how I wish na so you dey show concern for the almajiri and out of school kids and victims of bokoharam in nothen Nigeria…

@apro: Dubai man don show. If you had this energy all along, Wike for no carry Oraimo cord wipe wipe you for head.

@tomi_waziri: Don’t you think that it’s a sign from the gods that there is no democracy in Nigeria, sir. Who else agrees with me?

@sizzle: Atiku posted the fall video join… today is too funny. God abeg o. E come ask am say I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU… 😩😩🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@danielregha: Atiku u could sympathise with Tinubu over his fall at Eagle Square (regardless ur reason), but couldn’t show any sympathy towards the family of late Deborah after the unfortunate incident that happened despite seeing the news? U couldn’t even use ur platform to address the issue, show concern, or create awareness back then, instead u deleted the post already made. That says a lot.

@nawasmasood: This isn’t good coming from you. You can sympathize with him without posting the video. This is more like mockery not sympathy. The table will turn and we will be here. Tinubu is our president and insha Allah you will never be president in Nigeria.

The development underline the ongoing political tensions between the two parties and the quick escalation of online interactions into full-blown controversies. Despite the retaliatory move by APC supporters, Atiku’s initial message of sympathy was seen as a gesture of goodwill and respect for the office of the President.
