The Ogun State political landscape has been dealt a significant blow with the passing of Dr. Tokunbo Oshin, a former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly. He was 66 years old.

According to reports, Dr. Oshin died on Saturday night at a private hospital in Sagamu after a brief illness. His death was confirmed by Ogun State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Ademola Balogun, who described it as a “big loss” to the All Progressives Congress and Ijebu Igbo town.

Dr. Oshin had a distinguished career in politics and academia, serving as Deputy Speaker between 2003 and 2007 and representing the Ijebu North State constituency 1 between 2007 and 2011. He was also a former lecturer at Tai Solarin University of Education and a member of the Board of the Small & Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

Tributes have poured in for the late Dr. Tokunbo Oshin, with Engr. Bayo Dayo, a former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, describing his death as “shocking and least expected.” Dayo praised Dr. Oshin as a “true friend” and expressed his condolences to the family.

GWG.ng reports that the death of Dr. Tokunbo Oshin came hours after the reported death of Senator Ifeanyi Uba in London, marking a somber period for Nigeria’s political elite. His legacy and contributions to Ogun State’s development will be deeply missed.
