In a video making rounds on social media, a group of frustrated Nigerians was seen expressing their grievances by throwing stones at the MTN office in Festac Town, Lagos.
The uproar was sparked by the blockage of their SIM cards due to issues with National Identification Number (NIN) verification.
GWG.ng reports that many telecom subscribers were unable to access their phone lines over the weekend. This disruption was caused by the failure of numerous telecom consumers to link their NINs with their Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs). As a result, their numbers were blocked by their telecom service providers, in line with the government’s policies on NIN-SIM linkage.
The NIN-SIM linkage policy was implemented to enhance security and streamline identification processes in the country. However, the inability to verify NINs has left many subscribers in a state of frustration and inconvenience, leading to the chaotic scenes at the MTN office.
The video shows angry consumers taking drastic measures to voice their dissatisfaction, highlighting the growing tension between telecom users and service providers over the NIN-SIM linkage issues.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how telecom companies and the government will address these concerns to restore normalcy and service access for affected subscribers.
