Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has reflected on his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, acknowledging it was a significant setback in his career.

Joshua, known for his commitment to improvement, admitted that the back-to-back defeats were especially tough to handle, despite his subsequent victories.

The rematch with Usyk remains a painful memory for him, but Joshua said he was determined to use the experience as a learning opportunity and come back stronger.

He shared his feelings with DAZN Boxing, saying, “Usyk 2. Massively. I respect Usyk, yeah, but it just hurt the defeat. It was a weak performance. I wasn’t supposed to lose in my head. I give my life to this game, man. I give everything.”

Currently, Joshua is focused on his upcoming IBF title fight against Daniel Dubois, scheduled for September 21 at Wembley Stadium. He sees this bout as a crucial challenge in his career.

Although the defeat to Usyk still affects him emotionally, Joshua said he is now determined to regain his momentum and confidence through his recent successes. He is also open to a potential third fight with Usyk, depending on the outcome of Usyk’s rematch with Tyson Fury later this year.

As Joshua prepares for the Dubois fight, he is channeling his disappointment into renewed determination, recognizing that his previous efforts were not enough.
