Tension Resurfaces As RMD Mentions AY In Advice To Basketmouth (Video)

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) recently shared some advice with comedian-turned-filmmaker Basketmouth in an Instagram video.

While it seemed like an effort to promote Basketmouth’s upcoming movie ‘A Ghetto Love Story’, the post, however, sparked renewed interest in the tense relationship between Basketmouth and fellow comedian AY Makun.

In the video, RMD congratulated Basketmouth on his leap into the film industry but emphasized that filmmaking requires more than just talent. He advised Basketmouth to seek mentorship from established figures in Nollywood to ensure his success. However, it was RMD’s mention of AY Makun that noticeably changed the tone of the conversation.

RMD listed major industry players like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, and Kunle Afolayan as examples of people Basketmouth should approach for guidance. RMD had said: “Congratulations on your new film, ‘A Ghetto Love Story’. I wanted to reach out and give you some advice. You are stepping into a space where people have already established themselves. Hold your ground.”

He continued: “When you enter the film industry, go find the people who have laid the groundwork—Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, AY Makun, Kunle Afolayan, and others. These are people who have solidified their place. You need to connect with them and learn.”

Although Basketmouth remained composed, the mention of AY appeared to momentarily unsettle him, a subtle but noticeable reaction that did not escape the attention of viewers. This instantly reignited public curiosity about the longstanding rift between the two comedians.

RMD’s advice, though well-meaning, unintentionally put AY’s name back in the spotlight, drawing attention to their unresolved issues.
