President Bola Tinubu has urged all politicians and stakeholders involved in the upcoming Edo State governorship election on September 21, 2024, to honor the democratic process and promote peace. He emphasized that the choice of leaders should reflect the will of the people and with it acting out his duties as president and not his partisan act four years ago.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed his confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to maintain neutrality and fairness during the election. He called on citizens to remain peaceful throughout the voting process.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on all stakeholders in the upcoming Edo State governorship elections to conduct themselves peacefully and sportingly,” the statement said. He urged candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and acknowledge the voters’ ability to make informed choices about their future leaders.

The President highlighted that democracy relies on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for established rules. He noted that INEC is committed to conducting a free and fair election and encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate for a successful and peaceful process.

Furthermore, President Tinubu praised the candidates and political parties for focusing their campaigns on critical issues that matter to the people of Edo State, such as improving livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and contributing to national development. He called on all citizens in the state to remain respectful during the voting process and to resolve any disagreements through proper channels.

Lastly, the President reaffirmed his confidence in the professionalism and integrity of both the security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to remain impartial and refrain from any actions that could undermine the electoral process.
