Edo: Fintiri Clears Air On Results, Blames INEC For Disrupting Collation (Video)
Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has dismissed allegations that he prematurely announced election results during the ongoing Edo State governorship poll, placing the blame on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for disrupting the collation process.
In a statement addressing the controversy, Fintiri clarified that his comments were based on figures received from the collation agents before INEC intervened to defer the collation of the Edo governorship election results.
Fintiri emphasized that he did not declare the official results but merely relayed the ongoing tallies from across Edo State.
“I did not announce results. I only informed the public of the exact figures from our collation agent that were still being processed before INEC disrupted the collation. If anyone should be accused of violating the Electoral Act, it should be INEC, not me,” Fintiri stated.

The governor’s remarks come amidst rising tensions surrounding the electoral process in Edo State, with accusations and counter-accusations between political actors and the electoral body. Fintiri urged INEC to ensure transparency and adhere to the electoral guidelines, insisting that any disruption of the collation process would undermine the integrity of the election.
As the situation unfolds, the governor’s supporters continue to call for clarity and fairness, while opposition figures criticize Fintiri for allegedly overstepping his authority during the Edo election process. INEC has yet to formally respond to the governor’s allegations.
